Mangal Dosha: How It Is Calculated and What It Means
A careful introduction to Manglik or Mangal Dosha: the chart placements checked, cancelling conditions, and limits of an online result.
What a Mangal Dosha calculation checks
Mangal Dosha, often called Manglik dosha, is a traditional Vedic astrology rule concerning the placement of Mars. Different schools count from the ascendant, Moon, Venus, or more than one of these reference points, and they do not all use the same houses or exceptions. A result is only useful when it states the reference point and rule it applied.
A birth date, time, and place are needed to calculate the relevant chart positions reliably. A birth time close to a rising-sign boundary can change the ascendant and house count, so an uncertain time should be treated as uncertainty rather than as a definitive result.
Context matters more than a label
Classical sources and contemporary practitioners describe cancelling and moderating conditions. Mars strength, the condition of the relevant house, and the other person’s chart are often considered alongside the basic placement. A simple yes-or-no label leaves out the reasoning a responsible reading needs.
